Understanding Bryant’s Ductless Systems for Heating and Cooling
August 22, 2019
While ductless systems aren’t new to the market, their use in the United States is rising, with projections estimating that their annual revenue will grow to more than $9 billion next year — up from $3.9 billion in 2013. And for homebuilders looking for HVAC solutions that provide more cost-savings and energy-efficiency for their customers, ductless systems could be a flexible option.
Our brand partner Bryant offers easy-to-install ductless systems that include single and multi-zone styles depending on need, and work for both single-family and multi-family projects.
If you haven’t worked with ductless, there are a few things to know.
To start, ductless systems are made of three primary components:
- The indoor unit, which transfers heating and cooling to a given space.
- The control, which allows for individual room control.
- The outdoor unit, which controls compressor frequency and fan speed.
Ductless systems use electricity to heat and cool spaces without the need for ductwork to transfer air (hence the name). Instead of ducts, space-saving pipes are installed that connect the indoor unit to the outdoor unit.
For single-zone needs, one indoor unit corresponds to one outdoor compressor. For multi-zone needs, one outdoor compressor can power multiple indoor units depending on the system model.
And for ease of use, there are different models of indoor units to adapt installation to the architecture of a room — whether you want to install them high on the wall, in the ceiling or near the floor. For multi-family builders, they are also easy to install on flat roofs.
And as a final note: the Bryant ductless systems have a minimum efficiency of 18 SEER with ENERGY STAR® rated equipment, possibly qualifying you for state or city utility rebates.
