How to Capture a Product
You've set up HomeCapture, now let's start capturing products in your home!
Capture a New Product
- Open HomeCapture and tap New Capture
- If prompted, allow HomeCapture to use your device's location
- The address will automatically populate based on your location. Verify the address, and tap Next
- If prompted, allow HomeCapture to use your device's camera
- Find the product plate of the item you wish to capture
- Take a photo of the product plate within the app
- Review your photo to ensure the model and serial number are visible and readable. If it looks good, tap Use photo
- Type and select the name of the product's manufacturer
- Select the area of the home where the product is located
- Tap Save
- If you have more items to capture at this address, tap Add Capture and repeat steps 6 - 12
- Once you have captured all items, tap Done
- Take the photo as close to "straight on" as you can.
- If you can read the info in the photo, so can our Artificial Intelligence! If the photo is fuzzy or cut-off, re-take it.
HomeCapture relies on your phone's camera and location data to work. If you did not grant permission when prompted the first time, you will need to adjust this in your phone's settings menu.
We use the latest location/address information available, but that does not always keep up with new home construction. You can enter any address manually from the address screen when taking a new capture.
Select other from the dropdown menu if you do not see the manufacturer you're looking for.
Congratulations, you've taken your first capture! So, what's next? Learn about additional features within the HomeCapture app or learn more about how to manage your captures in HomeSphere HQ.
